For the first time in a couple of years, we’re celebrating an awareness event for part of our community by publishing new content in our maze exploration game Prideworld. The game is part of this website so you can play it in your browser on a computer, tablet or phone.

Genderfluid means having different experiences of one’s own gender at different times, or in different circumstances. This is one of the less well known and less understood parts of the LGBTQIA+ community… Click here for our page with a little more information..

This version of Prideworld has more new features and content than we’ve ever released in a single update before, and the genderfluid mission is also among the biggest in the game. You win by pressing switches to paint the buildings in the colours of a pride flag, and from time to time we’ve tried to represent more than just those colours. This mission involves you driving different coloured robots in different parts of the maze – but not for the usual reason that the bigger or smaller ones have their own special abilities. No, this one is unique because you’re forced to switch robot from time to time but they’re all the same size! Imagine (or if this happens to you, remember) what it’s like to wake up with whatever experience of gender you happen to be going to get on this particular day – which might not be the same as yesterday. From time to time in this mission you’ll have to start playing the next section with a new robot – or a slightly different aspect of your gender. You’ll need to adapt to the new situation: you won’t be able to carry on exactly as you were with all the extra lives and shields you collected in the last zone, but the new resources you need are out there to be found!

Prideworld: genderfluid awareness week

For the first time ever, you can collect shields to help your robot withstand the hazards of the Prideworld – and even push those annoying enemy robots out of the way! If you go to the How to Play section there’s now a playground – a sort of mini-mission where you can try customising your robot and interacting with all the game elements just to see what happens. You can even switch on the forcefield-powered jump ramps and holes in the floor, just to watch all the enemies get thrown to their destruction in the lava… if you like that sort of thing.

The Options page has always offered ways to adjust the amount of graphic detail, to make the most of powerful computers or simplify things for old phones. But now we have the long overdue feature of scaling the game screen up to fill the web browser window on pretty much any device. As always, go to the bottom of the options page to switch cookies on so it remembers your settings, then try a few different things until you reckon you’re getting the best compromise between a nice looking game and a fast animation rate that makes it easier to play. If you’re still having any trouble after that, we offer tech support (and solutions and cheats if you absolutely must have those!) on the Prideworld help/contact page.

Happy Genderfluid Awareness Week!

…but also…

In two days’ time (19 October) is the start of Ace Week, for everyone on the asexual spectrum. The ace mission we added to the game way back in October 2020 is of course still there!

And the day after that week finishes is Intersex Awareness Day (26 October) for which Prideworld also has a mission – this time originally published in 2021.
