Congleton Pride

This week, we are drawing attention to a vital open letter published by the Trans Advocacy and Complaints Collective (TACC). It concerns the rights of transgender and non-binary people and the language used to describe them. We ask you to read and sign it to show your support.

A harmful phrase

The letter addresses the term ‘biological sex’. You may hear this used in the news or by politicians, often presented as common sense. However, the letter argues that this term is being used as a weapon against the trans and non-binary community.

This specific phrase often originates from anti-trans groups. It is designed to hurt people and strip away their identity. Unfortunately, it has now entered the vocabulary of the media, the legal system, and government officials. This shift in language threatens to roll back the rights of trans people and complicates how our public services operate.

Expertise and kindness

The letter points out that the term ‘biological sex’ is often unnecessary. There are already correct, established scientific terms used by experts. Clinical terms are available for medical situations when precision is needed. We do not need to use politically charged language that excludes and harms a vulnerable group.

At its heart, this is about respect. The most accurate and respectful language is always the language a person chooses for themselves.

Stand with us

The TACC letter calls for a rejection of these harmful definitions. It urges us to stick to language that respects everyone’s identity. Please join us in supporting the trans and non-binary community. Read the full letter and add your signature via the link below.
